Masterclass

In her workshops, Olga invites participants to choose a dance phrase as a starting point (from any source: classical, modern, traditional dance, etc) and work on it using her recycling tools. The aim is to transform it into a whole, unique creation that corresponds to the participant’s identity. By the end of the day’s workshop, each participant will have created a “mini-piece” (a solo, duo or trio).

Olga Dukhovna

Olga Dukhovna is a Ukrainian-born artist based in France. She has been active in the field of choreography for 15 years, combining personal research with collaborative projects, notably with Boris Charmatz and Maud Le Pladec. She graduated from the P.A.R.T.S. school in Brussels and the CNDC in Angers. She is the recipient of a DanceWeb grant, and has won prizes at the Aerowaves platform and the Danse Elargie competition.

As an author, she draws on the traditional cultures she has inherited, in order produce a meticulous symbolic and narrative study of them. This process enables her to extract the essence of gestures and question their destination, which could be situated between the neutral and the political.

Her motto: “Nothing is created, nothing is lost, everything is danced.”

In her latest piece, Hopak, Olga recycles Ukrainian folk dances and addresses questions of heritage. In today’s world, what should we keep from completely obsolete material, and how can we use, transform and renew it?
