2025The audio documentary, On Decolonial Ground, is an extension of Betty Tchomanga’s choreographic series, Decolonial (Hi)stories. This gathers a multitude of voices—those of artists, teenagers, and teachers recorded over the course of a year in various middle and high schools in France—as it approaches the artistic field as a site of learning and emancipation. The testimonies collected here are put in dialogue with writings by authors such as bell hooks and Léonora Miano, the political scientist Malcom Ferdinand, the education researcher Francine Nyambek-Mebenga, and the sociologist Fabrice Dhume. The documentary draws connections between artistic and pedagogical discourses to question what schools can achieve and what art enables us to do. What does it mean to learn in a decolonial context? How can we learn? The voices express and analyze forms of decolonial thinking from the perspectives of art and education.
